Looking into the future the Pelican feeding its young from a self-induced wound in its own breast (as depicted, mysteriously, on the state flag of Louisiana) is accepted as an appropriate symbol of both self-sacrifice and rebirth. Through his selfless efforts, man is raised from the slavery of ignorance to the condition of freedom conferred by wisdom. Given the current state of affairs in Louisiana, one hopes that the understanding of the Pelican as a symbol shall point the way towards a new consciousness of ourselves as a whole, and lead us to face our futures with strength, grace, wisdom and faith, to learn from our mistakes and carry our successes and zest for living to future generations.

Bobby Jindal pushes Billion $Dollar$ Morganza "Leaky Levee" Pork Barrell Project

Despite a letter from 16 leading coastal scientists-engineers condemning the Morganza to Gulf of Mexico Hurricane Protection Plan as a "high economic, structural and environmental risk, that threatens the sustainability of the very ecosystem we are all trying to save" U.S. Representative Bobby Jindal is pushing the Billion $dollar$ Morganza "Leaky Levee" Pork Barrell Project. SOWL contends that this Morganza project is a wetland destroyer and a land development scheme scam.

Bobby Jindal wants a Billion $dollar$ federal contract to build a levee wall around Louisiana under the pretenses of "Hurricane Protection", but in actuality will only destroy wetlands that act as barriers for hurricane tidal surges, and will promote land development in low lying areas extremely susceptible to hurricane tidal surges.

Welcome to the world of Bobby Jindal- a puppet of the Bush machine that promotes war, corruption, fraud, lies, treason, and the absolute anihilation of America's natural resources.

Yes Louisiana is a backward state controlled and dominated by the oil gas and other big business corporate interests. Yes Louisiana politicians are mouthpieces for big business.

That's the reason oil companies were able to construct 10,000 miles of canals and navigational channels thru Louisiana wetlands, and walk away from the economic-ecological disaster they created. And that's the reason you got a $corporate$ creep like Jindal in U.S. Congress backed by a "Corporate Media," fraudently pushing the Pork Barrel Morganza Leaky Levee Scam upon the poor uneducated people of Louisiana.

Jindal Successfully Pressures Administration to Ease Opposition to Morganza

Washington, Apr 18 - Congressman Bobby Jindal (LA-01) today announced that, after he repeatedly shared his concerns with the President regarding the White House's stance on Morganza to the Gulf, the Administration has changed their stance on the project. The White House is expected to announce today that while they still have concerns regarding the project, the President is no longer opposed to it being included in the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), expected to come up for a vote tomorrow in the House of Representatives.

"I am very pleased that the White House has softened their stance on Morganza to the Gulf, which will provide essential hurricane protections to those in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes," Jindal said. "The area that will be protected by Morganza is home to tens of thousands of residents, and is a critically important area for our nation's energy and fishery industries. Though I certainly would have preferred an unqualified endorsement for Morganza to the Gulf from the Administration, I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House to ensure the passage of the Water Resources Development Act, with the Morganza and other projects intact, later this week."

Jindal publicly called for funding and authorization for Morganza to the Gulf to be included in WRDA. After the Administration released their opposition to the project earlier this week, Jindal immediately sent a letter to the President regarding the matter. Morganza to the Gulf will serve to aid the residents of Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes not only with storm protection, but also coastal restoration, and is the result of a plan developed over the past 15 years by the Army Corps of Engineers to protect the region.

The text of Jindal's letter is attached:

April 17, 2007
The Honorable George W. Bush
President of the United States
The White House

Washington, D.C. 20500

RE: H.R. 1495, The Water Resources Development Act of 2007 and the Morganza to the Gulf Provision

Dear President Bush:

I am writing to urge you to support the Morganza hurricane protection project and join the Louisiana delegation in supporting this bipartisan plan to protect approximately 120,000 people in Southeastern Louisiana. It will also protect 1,700 square miles of marshes, farmland, residential communities and industrial sites. This area is vital to the country because it provides the oil and gas that powers the nation and the seafood that feeds our people.

I have serious concerns about any White House opposition to this project calling for delay and additional study. This crucial area of our nation currently has no hurricane protection. After 15 years, the Army Corps of Engineers has finally developed a plan. The people in southern Louisiana do not have time for more delays. The project has been needed for too many years already, and it is critical to the recovery of the region that we start it as soon as possible.

We cannot afford to gamble the safety of this area any longer. It is time to take the common sense approach and build Morganza to the Gulf.

Sincerely,
Bobby Jindal
Member of Congress
cc: Hon. Rob Portman
